Welcome to my Autumn edit. This is without a doubt the easiest season to style your home. From something simple for a coffee table, dressing your mantlepiece or a quick and easy tablescape to wow your dinner guests, Autumn provides so many options, whatever your décor.
To add rustic seasonal textures and a hint of the outdoors to your living space, you don’t have to look too far or spend too much. Twig wreaths and garlands add a rustic look and can be accessorised with dried flowers, seed heads and pods. Add some freshly foraged tree ivy and some gourds to a tray and intersperse with terracotta pots of trailing ivy or seasonal plants such as pansies, cyclamen or hellebores to bring the outside in.
For a more contemporary look, for example in a hallway or on a kitchen island, a tall, glass cylinder vase with some long branches and stems of Chinese lanterns (physalis) makes an effective statement piece. Or if you prefer a softer look, a bunch of fresh eucalyptus stems add scent and a neutral hue. Transition from day to night with some battery lights or a few candles around the base for a soft glow.
For everyday style, make a chicken wire egg and pop inside a ceramic or wide necked container before adding your branches, flowers or foliage. The ‘egg’ is a great way to keep your stems in place and you won’t need so many to achieve a full look.
With any of the above ideas, simply adding a few candles, loose gourds, leaves, dried hydrangea heads and pots along the centre of a dining table creates a quick and easy tablescape, mantlepiece or fireplace dressing.
